Suggs a Finalist for Flame for Learning

Greer Suggs, Clayton Middle's AVID and Creative Writing teacher for grade 6-8, was a finalist for the Johnston County's Flame for Learning award. In November, Mrs. Suggs' sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Creative Writing classes composed thank you letters to honor American veterans, thanking them for their service and dedication to our nation. These letters were distributed to local veterans during the Johnston County Schools Veterans Day Celebration at Smithfield-Selma Senior High School, and they made a difference to the veterans who received them. Mrs. Suggs and her students were amazed at the response of veterans who received letters. Students received over 20 responses and were even visited personally by veterans who were touched by the students' words of thanks. It was this activity and its impact on students and the community that were celebrated when Mrs. Suggs was named as a finalist for the Johnston County Flame for Learning.
