FFA Competitors Finish Top at StateOn Friday, March 10, several CMS FFA members competed at the North Carolina FFA Middle Grades Rally, held on the campus of NC A&T in Greensboro, NC.
Prior to the competition, these members studied and practiced hard to compete in various competitions called Career Development Events.
One of those competitions was Prepared Public Speaking in which the student must write and present a 4-6 minute speech on an agricultural topic. Eighth grader Craig Hamer represented CMS FFA well, presenting his speech on "The Doggie Dilemma: The Issue with Puppy Mills". Overall, Craig did an excellent job presenting and placed 7th in the state!
The other event was a team event: Biotechnology Quizbowl. In this event, a team of four must answer multiple rounds of questions about topics related to Biotechnology and FFA. The CMS team consisted of eighth graders Kaylie Baker, Kayla Connolly, Sydney Eure and Meredith Roberson. These ladies studied extremely hard months before the event and their efforts paid off. After making it through the first two rounds, they placed third in the state and received a team plaque and individual pins! Ms. Allison Dunn, one of the CMS FFA advisors, stated that she was very proud of the FFA members that competed and did such a great job in their very first state-level competition. Ms. Dunn hopes that next year, she can take even more FFA members to compete in the Career Development Events at Middle Grades Rally.
