Master Gardener Visits AG Class
Posted on 09/21/2016
Tuesday, September 20, Ms. Dunn's agricultural science classes hosted one of the Johnston County Master Gardeners, Mrs. Sandy Preston. The Master Gardener program is a part of the Johnston County Cooperative Extension Service, which partners with the community and its' members to educate the public about agriculture. Mrs. Preston spoke to the 8th grade Ag science classes about vegetable gardening. She highlighted several important parts of gardening including soil science, soil sampling, composting and pest management practices. Ms. Dunn's classes are already utilizing the space in the CMS Courtyard Garden to grow several cool season vegetables such as cabbage, collards, broccoli, brussel sprouts, lettuce and spinach. Hopefully these ag students can take what they have learned from Mrs. Preston's presentation and apply it in our school's garden!
