What Makes a North Carolinian?
Posted on 09/12/2016
Our 8th graders are learning that North Carolina's people are as diverse as our geography. From the mountains to the sea you'll find Tarheels who love sweet tea, enjoy pork barbecue and red hot dogs, treat others with kindness and hospitality, and fear snow storms. Exploring our people is just as interesting as exploring our state. Mrs. Greer Suggs and her CSI class investigated our state's diversity and wrote blurbs with the central idea of each student's written response to the question "What makes a North Carolinian?" She stated, "I'm loving my awesome 8th graders and their creativity! Some of my favorite answers are an obsession with interlocking monograms, love for red hot dogs, an irrational fear of snow, understanding the value of ACC basketball, the ability to make the greatest barbecue (pork barbecue with a vinegar-based sauce, of course). This assignment is giving the students a love for our state's history and landscapes.
